Østfold is traditionally a manufacturing region, with a heavy weight in forest industry, paper mills and chemical factories. Today only 21% is employed in the manufacturing industry. Farming employs about 3%. The rest of the labour force is working in different service industries and the public sector

The municipalities, Spydeberg, Askim and Eidsberg, will especially participate in this project. Østfold is leading partner/lead applicant, which means that Østfold is overall responsible for the project.
